About JOM
The mission of the Cherokee Nation Co-Partner (JOM) program is to provide opportunities for achievement through student and parent involvement in academic and cultural education.
Who qualifies for JOM ? Any current student must present a copy of documentation that he/she is a member of a Federally Recognized Tribe in his/her name.
What does being a member of JOM mean? Being a member of JOM qualifies your child for many benefits. The common benefit most people associate JOM with is free school supplies, but the benefits are much greater. Seniors are given compensation for cap and gown expenses. High school students are given financial help with class dues, such as FFA, FCCLA, woodshop and also helps with ACT costs. Being a member of JOM also qualifies a student for many other things, such as, art competitions, Oklahoma Indian Student Honor Society, too many to mention.
My family is not in need of these services ? This is a common misperception.. ...that JOM only provides student services. The reality is only about half of the budget is spend on individual student needs. The remaining of the budget is spent on items such as Native American books for the library, many of which have been for the AR program, Native American craft items bought for the elementary teachers and humanity/art teachers for all their students, a Native American program for each campus and an annual banquet which recognizes student achievement. So, by enrolling in JOM you are helping fund items that would not be able to be purchased without JOM funding.
Who decides on what the funding is spent on? Every year a needs assessment survey is conducted and tallied. The survey group consist of JOM students/parents, support staff, teachers, and administrators. This is presented to the JOM IEC who will discuss and vote on the budget. Parents and faculty comments and consideration are always welcomed.
